Jonathan Taylor Thomas's Surprising Arrest Sparks Public Curiosity

“Home Improvement” alum Jonathan Taylor Thomas was arrested in California, Page Six can confirm.

On Monday, the former child star was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle pulled over in Westlake Village, California, per TMZ.

During the traffic stop, authorities asked him to remain inside the vehicle when he stepped out.

However, the “uncooperative” actor refused to listen to officers who told him to remain inside, and was detained for allegedly obstructing or resisting an executive officer. Per the outlet, Thomas, 45, was drunk in public and resisted.

Jail records seen by Page Six confirm that Thomas was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s jail — before being released shortly after.

Page Six reached out to the actor for comment.

The rarely-spotted sitcom star isn’t the first “Home Improvement” star to have been arrested.

The former child actor’s co-star on the beloved 90s sitcom Tim Allen was arrested back in 1978 for possession of cocaine.

The Golden Globe winner, now 73, pleaded guilty to felony drug trafficking and cooperated with police by naming other dealers.

He ultimately served over two years in a federal prison in Minnesota before being paroled in 1981.

Allen was also arrested for alleged DUI in 1997, pleading guilty and completing probation and a rehabilitation program. He’s since established and maintained his sobriety for decades.

Thomas’ onscreen brother Zachery Ty Bryan, 44, has been arrested several times, as well.

In 2020, Bryan was arrested and pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and menacing in Oregon.

Following a July 2023 domestic violence arrest, Bryan pleaded guilty and spent seven days in jail before entering 36 months of supervised probation.

He was subsequently arrested twice for alleged DUI — once in Oklahoma and once in California — in 2024, and was again arrested in 2025 on second-degree domestic violence charges.

Most recently, Bryan was detained in Oregon for violating his aforementioned probation. In March, he was sentenced to 19 months in prison, while serving a 16-month sentence in a California jail for his 2024 DUI arrest.

Thomas himself has remained extremely reclusive for years, only rarely being seen stepping out. He was spotted walking his dogs in Los Angeles in 2021 after remaining out of public view for nearly eight years.

He resurfaced in 2023, visiting a convenience store near his home in Southern California.

Earlier this year, he reunited with onscreen mom Patricia Richardson, 75, and onscreen brother Taran Noah Smith, 42, in an Instagram upload shared by the actress. “My other boys❤️,” she affectionately captioned the upload.
