Lauren Sánchez Bezos Stirs Controversy with Daring State Dinner Outfit

Lauren Sánchez Bezos went for classic black — with a ton of sparkle — as she attended Thursday night’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House.

For the evening, Sánchez Bezos chose a black vintage Alexander McQueen gown that featured off-the-shoulder detailing.

And, the plunging neckline provided the perfect canvas for her massive diamond necklace.

The sparkling jewelry looks to be a tennis necklace made of large emerald-cut diamonds, punctuated with a massive emerald cut pendant diamond that hangs from the center.

In her ears were oversized diamond drop earrings which, large as they were, dwarfed in comparison to the bling around her neck.

Although Bezos chose a little black dress that often keeps one flying below the radar, her form-fitting and plunging style ruffled a few feathers.

“Money does not buy one class. She dresses terribly. So inappropriate,” wrote one user on X.

“Have some dignity for goodness sake. This is a state dinner and you are 56 years old” added another, while a third chimed in, “Her diamond could feed a lot of starving children.”

Meanwhile, Melania Trump wore black Dolce & Gabbana pants with white pussy bow blouse by Saint Laurent while Ivanka Trump kept her blue and white theme going with a strapless beaded Georges Hobeika gown.

This isn’t the first time that Sánchez Bezos has stirred up controversy with her White House looks.

In 2024, the helicopter pilot was criticized for choosing a sheer red corset dress that had her chest on full display. The following year, she opted for a black dress — not dissimilar to this year’s choice in silhouette and cut — though brought the sparkle power by way of a 200-carat emerald necklace by Lorraine Schwartz.

And, after her 2025 inauguration outfit featuring a white lace bra peeking out from her suit caused eyes to wander, the children’s book author said that she thought she “dressed conservatively” and was “super proud” of herself.
