Emma Roberts' Son Steals the Show at Her 'Magical' Wedding
Emma Roberts’ 5-year-old son, Rhodes, took his duties at his mom’s summer wedding very seriously.
“It was so magical, and my son walked me down the aisle,” Roberts, 35, gushed on the Tuesday, September 15, episode of the “Sibling Revelry” podcast. “That was, like, so cute and so sweet. He was so excited.”
Roberts married her now-husband, Cody John, in July in an intimate ceremony held at his family’s ranch in Sun Valley, Idaho.
“I’ve never felt better or, like, more settled or happier,” Roberts, who shares Rhodes with ex Garrett Hedlund, gushed on Tuesday. “[The wedding] was so amazing. It was at his family’s house in the backyard. We put up a tent and had the time of our lives. … It really was one of the best nights of my life.”
In addition to Rhodes, the newlyweds invited 200 of their famous friends and family members to toast the occasion.
“We wanted a bunch of people there to celebrate and our parents wanted to invite people, we wanted to invite people, and I didn’t want to be that bride that was rigid with the guest list,” she recalled. “Granted, we didn’t give guests to everyone, but we didn’t want to be too rigid.”
Emma’s mother, Kelly Cunningham, and her aunt Julia Roberts were both in attendance, while the American Horror Story star’s dad, Eric Roberts, was notably absent. (Emma and Eric, 70, have a distant relationship.)
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric told Us in a July statement about missing the ceremony. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
While Emma never publicly addressed her father’s absence or their alleged estrangement, she previously told Vogue her big day felt “like it was out of a book.”
“I feel like I’m always in a rush,” Emma told the magazine. “All my friends are always in a rush. My family, we’re always in a rush, so to feel like people really got off their phones, were present, and that everybody I love was in one room, I can’t even capture the feeling of that. I couldn’t have dreamed it better.”
For the occasion, Emma donned a bespoke bridal gown designed by Monique Lhuillier.
“The vibe was, like, vintage, lace [and] formfitting. I said I wanted to look like a haunted doll,” she quipped on the podcast episode. “People thought that was weird, but that was my vibe. Ombré, it was tea-dipped. I wanted to look like a ghost, which people also thought was weird. You know, I loved it, and I have no regrets.”
